After a day hiking around the meadows under the shadow of the Matterhorn I decided to enjoy the Botanischer Lehrpfad (Botanical Trail) from within town and hike the Trift trail to the namesake hut.

The hike starts steeply ascending the Edelweiss hut but no stopping on the way up!

Shortly after leading Edelweiss you arrive at a melting tunnel of ice which on the very hot day was instantly refreshing a considerably colder than the surrounding air temperature.

The trail winds along a creek with incredible mountain views the entire way. I had planned to complete the hike to Trift Berghaus but was uncomfortable with some of the exposure so I turned around just shy of the hut.

On the way back down I stopped at the Edelweiss to enjoy a cold beverage and the views.
